"The first single, “Fallen Kings, Fallen Queens,” recalls a gothic and doom metal-tinged funeral march, replete with chilling atmospherics and slow-and-low chugging guitars. The song swells to almost a dark orchestral luminescence in the bridge, as if representing Elias reaching some dark triumph in the song’s narrative. Throughout, Joe Berry’s sax work adds well-placed dramatic punctuations, lending the song the excitement of a classic black and white thriller movie. “Fallen Kings, Fallen Queens” features some of Elias’s finest vocals. Here, he explores his full range from anguished falsetto singing to impassioned growling vocals. His words smolder with charred poetics."
